Kanab's Peek-a-Book Canyon is an awesome slot canyon that's easy to hike too and not as crowded as other in major parks. En route to the canyon, you'll enjoy an exciting off-roading adventure while getting to the canyon.

Peek A Boo Slot Canyon Trailhead South Rim

Peek-A-Boo is a slot and corkscrew, and Spooky Gulch is a narrow slot canyon. It is worth noting, due to the restrictive nature of the some of the spaces in Spooky, this canyon is better suited for smaller body types. Adding to the cool factor of this destination is that it’s a loop — which is rare for these parts. One of the most spectacular slot canyon hikes in the entire world is in the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. This is actually two separate slots combined into one hike. The first is called Peek-a-Boo and the second is called Spooky. The trailhead for these slot canyons is found 26 bumpy miles out Hole-in-the-Rock Road. Dry Fork Narrows, Peekaboo and Spooky Slot Canyons is a 6.3 mile heavily trafficked loop trail located near Escalante, Utah that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as difficult. The trail is primarily used for hiking and walking and is best used from May until November. Length 6.3 miElevation gain 738 ftRoute type Loop. Peek-A-Boo Slot Canyon is a 1,768 foot trail through Scorpion Wilderness Study Area. Hiking Trails (7) 1. Spooky Canyon Loop via Peek A Boo & Spooky Trail. The canyon is the first tributary joining Dry Fork of Coyote Gulch downstream of the usual entrance point to that canyon. Photographs 5 views of Peekaboo Gulch. Route Description There is usually a pool of murky water beneath the end of Peekaboo Gulch, which may be up to 3 feet deep, with a near vertical rock wall about 10 feet high beyond.

The trailhead is Best Friends Animal Sanctuary (Angel Canyon Rd.) located between the Kanab and Mt. Carmel Jct. To get started, head out on a sandy track on the north side of US 89 (37.154,-112.573). 4WD vehicles can drive all (2.8 miles) or part of this track, which leads to the drainage below the narrows.

Peek a boo slot canyon trailhead hike

Great beginner slot

This is a short but sweet and simple slot that is a great introduction. with 4x4 you can get very close access and do this slot without breaking a sweat, but it sure is beautiful and worth a little hiking if needed.

Short, fun slot canyon.

Sandstone slot canyons are always fun, and Peek-a-Boo Canyon definitely lives up to it's name. Definitely a must do if you're in the area!

The Hike

The Peek-a-boo Loop is a hiker and horse trail that winds around hoodoo formations below Inspiration Point and Bryce Point. Views along this trail include the popular Wall of Windows, The Three Wisemen, The Organ, and The Cathedral as well as eastward views beyond the canyon toward the Aquarius Plateau, Canaan Mountain, and the Kaiparowits Plateau.

At one point the path passes through a man-made arch and into a small grotto with large hoodoo walls towering above. The trail descends through this cavern via a series of short switchbacks. At the bottom of the switchbacks, it emerges from the cavern with a close-up view of the Wall of Windows to the right. The trail briefly traverses the base of the Wall of Windows. Looking up at the canyon rim from here, hikers can see grottos in the cliffs.
